Import/Export of Firearms

Transporting Firearms and Ammunition
|

Griffin & Howe can assist you in importing or exporting firearms that you own or are purchasing. We apply for the proper permit under our license. When we receive the approved permit, we will notify you and the shipper that we are able to receive your firearm. When the firearms are received by Griffin & Howe we are required by law, as the importer, to engrave our name on the firearm. We will do that in small letters in a discreet area on the firearm.

We will import the firearm under our license and U.S. Customs Bond. Duty of 2.6% will be assessed on firearms being imported into the U.S. for the first time. Griffin & Howe will pay the duty, insurance, brokerage, and freight on your behalf. You will then be invoiced for all those charges after the import has cleared U.S. Customs.

Your firearm will be insured for the full value of the gun. You may also elect to self-insure. If you do, you will be asked to provide a letter stating those intentions.

|
You may be liable for Federal Excise Tax on the non-casual import of your firearm.
|
|
A deposit of $500.00 is required to initiate the process.
|
|
In order to apply for an import or export permit, you need to supply us with the following information:
|
- Make of Firearm
- Model
- Serial Number
- Gauge or Caliber
- Barrel Length
- Overall Length
- Value
- Name and Address of the Foreign Shipper
- Your Name, Address, Telephone and Email

Important Insurance Notification
|
|
We are required by our marine insurance provider which covers all exports and imports that we notify them of any shipment with a value in excess of $150,000.
|
|
Please notify Griffin & Howe at least 7 days prior to the anticipated ship date, and do not ship until you have received approval from Griffin & Howe.
|
|
Prior notification is requested, but not required for a shipment with a value of less than $150,000.
